The cottages are located approx 900 feet from the beach known locally as "Pantings Shore". The beach stretches for approximatley 2 km, from east to west, passing through Northumberland provincial park. The beach has warm red sand and lots of interesting sea life. A colony of grey seals lives off the Eastern point and are commonly seen sunning themselves on the rocks just offshore. At the Western point is the iconic Wood Islands lighthouse.
Drive to the Wood Islands Wharf (2.5 km) to watch the local fisherman bringing in their daily hauls and enjoy fresh lobster, mussels, oysters or other delights at Crabby's Seafood on the wharf. Or explore the lighthouse and watch the fishing and ferry boats come and go. Drive east approx 5 km to Rossignal Winery and enjoy local award winning wines. The quaint fishing villages or Murray River and Murray Harbour are only a 10-15 minute drive away
The beautiful sandy beach is one of the best swimming areas in P.E.I. There are no steep drop-offs or strong tides, which makes the beach ideal for children, who will enjoy building sand castles and searching for hermit crabs. At low tide (twice daily) the waters recede and leave lovely sandbars which are great for digging hard clams (quahogs).
